The $500.00 Cat4/4: Being Easter, we find it a great time to update the story of the Kitty dubbed "The $500.00 Cat."We are pleased to announce we have reached our fund-raising goal. Thanks to all who have contributed: Gretchen F., Jane W., Delma S., Kristin A., Pam A., Laura A., David & Jennifer G, Wendy S., Bette & Erine R., Syl...via & Bill W., John & Joyce S., Alice V., Mary W., Sandra S. & Elizabeth C. just to name a few.
The most surprising wishes came to us from The Kublin Brothers: two Kitties who were so moved by the story that they asked their family to contribute in their name INSTEAD of spending their allowance on kitty treats! Quite a sacrifice for a couple of food-loving Feline friends.
Thanks to all those who contributed & to those of you who sent well wishes! The following are pics of Momma Cat, Kittens & the Kublin Brothers.

UPDATE 3/31: We are happy to report Momma and her two babies are doing very well! The "kids" are doing just what they are supposed to .....GROWING! They now are acting a bit more like "kittens" and are able to move about in a slow crawl. They have opened their eyes and are fairly curious about their surroundings. So far, they have not learned to climb or travel about, but it's only a matter of time before these two cuties will be "scooting about" and exploring their temporary home.
Momma Cat's personality has come out and every day she is here see more and more from her. She is a loving, well adjusted kitty who gets along well with other cats and even likes the company of dogs! She is very social and we are sure, when the time comes for her adoption, someone will be very lucky to have her as a new addition to their family.
3/19: On a Sunday evening, a man arrived at our door step with a big box tied tightly with an old rope. Inside the box , there was movement! We ushered him inside and took a look at the contents - it was a very pregnant cat. He reported that he obtained the cat as a kitten last fall from a family with "lots of cats." He then made the kitten his pet, but now that she "got pregnant," he had no use for a cat with kittens! So, the cat stayed, the man left. Before he went, he picked up the only thing he found to be of value and took it with him...the old rope that had held the box shut.In less than 24 hours, "Momma Kitty" went into labor and gave birth to kittens: first there were two, then after several hours, the third emerged but was not breathing! It was a "still-birth." Momma Kitty settled back to nurse her two babies, everything was going as planned. After observing Momma, we noticed something was not quite "right." She just did not have that "look of contentment."

We took the family to the vets, they checked her out, said that although she was a "bit enlarged" it was not unusual after giving birth. Her temperature was normal, no more signs of labor and she looked as if all was well. We insisted on x-rays. The x-ray results came back and there WAS A PROBLEM after all! Momma still had a kitten in her belly and it appeared by all signs to have no life!
An emergency surgery was warranted. It was not without risks, but was the only way to to save the life of Momma and it was the only way to ensure the two living kittens a chance at life. So, without hesitation, we authorized the life saving surgery! We'd worry about raising funds later.
The next day, we returned to the vet for the report. It was reported the surgery went well, Momma came through okay and the two babies were fine. Our job now was to take Momma home and give love, food, comfort, and let the family develop.
Then; raise funds to pay the vet bill. So, here we are with a growing family and appealing to our supporters for assistance. We are asking that you contribute something, just a little, to help offset the cost of medical care. Every $1.00 helps. Every $5.00 helps. Thanks in advance for your compassion and we will keep you updated on the status of this little family.
COST of emergency surgery = $425.00
COST of Momma's future medical care = $75.00
COST of the life of this family = PRICELESS
